With this in mind, Blink Charging acquired BlueLA car sharing and set in motion an improvement and expansion program designed to make the service even better.
Blink Charging was founded with the mission to do our part in slowing climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions caused by transportation. We design, manufacture, own and operate EV charging stations, paving the way for the adoption of EVs through the deployment and operation of EV charging infrastructure globally.

BlueLA powered by Blink Mobility, is a 100% electric car-sharing service and part of the City of Los Angeles’ mobility strategy. The service is available to anyone over 18 years of age with a valid driver’s license. Members have access to a network of shared electric vehicles 24-hours a day, seven days a week, at self-service locations throughout central Los Angeles.
BlueLA powered by Blink Mobility stations are on-street, conveniently located at 40 destinations around the city, each with five charging ports, where car-sharing members pick up and drop off vehicles. BlueLA powered by Blink Mobility does not restrict where a vehicle can be used. Its service is point to point, which means you can return the vehicle at any of the designated BlueLA powered by Blink Mobility locations!
History of BlueLA powered by Blink Mobility
In 2015, The City of Los Angeles was awarded a grant from the California Air Resources Board through California Climate Investments – a statewide initiative that puts billions of cap-and-trade dollars to work reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening the economy, and improving public health – to pilot electric vehicle car-sharing in low-income communities of Los Angeles. Former BlueLA Car sharing began operating the service in partnership with the Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT).
Blink Mobility acquired fledgling BlueLA in late 2020 and implemented a robust million-dollar improvement initiative bringing all-new electric vehicles and upgraded charging stations to the program as well as an improved mobile app and member experience.
Today, BlueLA powered by Blink Mobility currently serves the communities of Westlake, Koreatown, Pico-Union, Downtown, Echo Park, Boyle Heights, and Chinatown, with Phase 2 development planned for additional vehicles in more LA communities scheduled for 2021.
Project implementation and outreach efforts are supported by the LA Mayor’s Office of Sustainability, Shared Use Mobility Center, and a committee of community-based organizations.
This program is more than just a [greenhouse gas] reduction policy. It is really also a mobility opportunity program which we see as unlocking economic opportunity for stakeholders.
