Valentine’s Day in Los Angeles

In L.A. and not sure where to go for V Day? Whether you’re planning a date for your sweetie, going solo dolo, or doing The Galentine’s thing, we’ve got you covered! No matter what part of the city you’re looking to spend your day at, there are many great choices and deals for going out or staying in!

If you’re headed Downtown, there are several places to go for a romantic Valentine’s Day that revolve around art. Try the Museum of Architecture and Design for a new exhibit and the Hauser and Wirth Art Complex for modern art industrial designs. The Girl and the Goat is a great spot to stop for brunch, while Bestia offers high-end Italian, and Cha, Cha, Cha is a rooftop award-winning Mexican restaurant that requires a reservation.

If the beach is closer to your idea of romantic, Santa Monica has a lot to offer including strolls on the beach or the pier, where there are plenty of games and a roller coaster that still works. Get there early and you can even fish off the pier. The Third St. Promenade also offers a long leisurely stroll and plenty of high-class restaurants.

The Calabra Roof Restaurant at the Proper Hotel offers drinks in a homey atmosphere in a bar on the ground floor, then take the elevator up for the most amazing view in the city around sunset. L.A. Date Ideas says “This place is uber-romantic and quiet enough for date conversation.” The Elephante Beach House requires semi-formal dress and reservations, but it’s always packed and offers some of the best food and views of the beach in Santa Monica.

Ivy at the Shore and Shutters are classics in the Santa Monica community that offer fresh seafood and amazing views across the street from the beach, but on VD, reservations will be required. On your way, stop at the Brentwood Market for upscale finds, antique shopping, and high-end stores that will remind you of anything but a plain old farmer’s market.

West Hollywood and the Sunset Strip offer romantic strolls (if you’re okay with some fumes, Sunset is a VERY busy boulevard) and celebrity-owned hot spots. Wolfgang Puck’s Merois at Pendry is a favorite that offers great food with a view. Puck’s food is well-known in L.A., and sometimes you have to have the BBQ Chicken Pizza or his chocolate souffle.

Sunset Plaza has a wide variety of choice, Clouche being a top pick, but they too will be packed on VD, so prepare ahead of time. Bossa Nova on Sunset features incredible Brazilian food at reasonable prices; the Bolognese is incredible. Everleigh is another nice choice, technically off the strip, but still crowded with an incredible views of a flower garden in all directions.

Cecconi’s is a great celebrity stop for pasta and wood-fired pizza as long you don’t mind sharing your Valentine’s Day with the paparazzi. The historic Formosa Café has been celebrating VD in Hollywood since the ‘20s, and Angelenos have been enjoying their high-quality, low-priced Chinese cuisine since then. If you’re up for something quieter and more active, tour the Pacific Design Center on Santa Monica.

Get your SO outside with a trip to Mid-City LA. The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is a hot spot of the area but requires tickets. The La Brea Tar Pits are free for a fun, low-stress date. The small museum is a chance to see extinct ice-age animals and learn a little something while you stroll the grounds. If you haven’t been dating long, this might be an ideal choice. Marie Calendar’s nearby offers homestyle cuisine. Try the Grove for a picturesque stroll. A pretty, outdoor mall, the Grove offers shopping, walking, a movie theater, and plenty of restaurants. Pour Vous is a vintage jazz club that transports dancers back to the turn of the century Paris, complete with vintage cocktails.

Staying Home or Looking for Deals?

Plenty of L.A. establishments know people are staying home this year and value discounts more than ever. A Paper Pizza Company in Downey is offering “heart-shaped pizzas made with red dough.  Chocolate-covered strawberries, balloons, and flowers are also available for pickup and delivery Feb. 13-14.”

Bardonna offers a Breakfast in Bed package that includes breakfast for two and a romantic note. Destroyer in Culver City is offering picnic baskets already stocked with their cuisine. Greek restaurant Theia is offering a four-course meal complete with “Get a Room” dessert. Visit I Like L.A. for dozens of options including a “Hot Chicken Bouquet”!
